GISBORNE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Curriculum

Gisborne Primary School has a minimum of two hours of English and one hour of Maths each day. Subjects such as History, Geography, Technology and Health are integrated into English and Maths as well as being taught as stand-alone subjects, providing in-depth exploration of topics and a deeper development of students’ understandings.

In Year 3 Civics and Citizenship is introduced and taught in the remaining year levels. Business and Economics is covered in Years 5-6. Gisborne Primary School emphasises the importance of collaboration, problem solving and critical and creative thinking – all skills required for analysing and evaluating information.
Teachers work in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) where they learn from each other and plan for students through considering individual needs, data analysis of student learning and researching then implementing ‘best practice’ so teaching and learning remains up to date and relevant. Teachers also attend professional development on and off site.
