GISBORNE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Transition

Gisborne Primary School operates a transition program for students in Foundation to Year 6.

We have a comprehensive transition program with the local kindergartens. The children are given the opportunity to attend our school in Term 4 to meet the classroom teachers and to familiarise themselves with classroom routines and programs.

Foundation students then participate in several sessions towards the end of the year so they can learn about the routines and experiences of school and become familiar with the learning environment. Families are involved in parent information sessions with leadership and Allied Health staff who deliver a school readiness session.

Students in years 1-5 participate in a ‘step up’ program to support their transition to the following year.

Staff at Gisborne PS work closely with the kinder teachers as well as the secondary school teachers to ensure thorough handover of information. This supports the transition process for all students to ensure a smooth start to the year.
